Watching Grass Grow, 2021-2022
Soil, grass

I grew a lawn in MIGHT COULD Art Project Space December 2021 - January 2022. On the final day, six weeks after sowing seeds, I opened the door to the public.

It started as a cheeky pun. A fleeting thought to pause over the summer. Watch grass grow. Soon I was researching seed. A patch of pet grass was sown. Chickens were invited. Builders and gardeners were consulted.
For years my work has been about travel, loss and decay. I place work in the way of elements: rain, wind, sun, snow, weight, water, people, animals, insects, and the work evolves in unexpected ways over time. This work was a direct response to how I have been peripatetic, on the move.
Watching Grass Grow, sowing seeds, establishing roots and promoting growth are a direct result of - for the first time since I can remember (maybe since I was 18 years old) - living in the same house for over two years.
